Mountain Sights, Sounds, and Fun-Springfest 2006

Yesterday, my wife and I were privileged to spend the day at Springfest 2006 in Meadows of Dan, Virginia. We had a wonderful time and my wife and I got to meet, in person, fellow BRG writer and partner in Wild Meadow Publishing, Blue Ridge Gazette blog and the Blue Ridge Gazette online magazine, Leslie Shelor; it was delightful!

Leslie had a booth at Springfest where she was selling her wonderful handspun specialty-blend-yarns as well as the beautiful products she makes from them. We sat and talked with Leslie and some other new friends while Leslie demonstrated her spinning technique and told us about the process from, sheep and rabbit shearing, to finished product. Her knowledge and the fluidity with which she spun were inspiring!

We also met Sue Shelor, the owner of Mountain Meadow Farm and Craft Market and the Lady who brought Springfest to Meadows of Dan. Sue is a delightful young lady and very talented in crafting gourds into interesting and useful art. An art that must be as time consuming, and as beautiful as any gourd art you will find anywhere!

There was food, drink, and other wonderful crafts and art there too and everyone had a wonderful time. I also got to meet another wonderful guy and fellow blogger for the first time in person; Dave, over at Here, There, and Back was there and what an interesting guy! Dave didn’t bring his lovely wife but I am hoping that at the end of May, when we go for another visit to Meadows of Dan, he will also return and this time with his wife.

In the afternoon we were treated to the homegrown bluegrass music of Sammy Shelor and friends. Sammy is an accomplished banjo player who has been busy recording and traveling with his band, Lonesome River Band. But Sammy took the time to join his friends yesterday at Springfest to the delight of all within hearing distance…it was wonderful!

If you missed Springfest, I’m sorry, because you missed a beautiful coming together of mountain arts and crafts, music, scenery, foods, and friends!

But fear not my friends because at the end of May, the 27, 28, and 29th, 2006, you will have the opportunity to make it to another fantastic event at Mountain Meadow Farm and Craft Market as they present, “Hit and Miss in the Mountains.” If you don’t make it to this one then kick yourself in the butt, because you deserve it!

All the information you’ll need on “Hit and Miss in the Mountains” can be found here.
