Snookkill creek's hidden wonder
The land around Saratoga County in Upstate New York is criss-crossed by numerous small and large creeks. One of these is the Snookkill, kill meaning creek in old Dutch language. I knew there was a waterfall on the edge of the road where the creek crosses underneath. There is a deep ravine carved into the mountainside where this waterfall secretly exists with few visitors. I decided to stop one day and take some photos. There was a faint footpath that led down a steep bank into the ravine. This waterfall is truly a gem that I hope remains as unknown as it is now. To the left is a photo of the waterfall as it cascaded into the ravine. To the left is a photo of the ravine and the rock layers that have been carved out by the power of the water over the years. This photo on the left looks like a man-made piling of rocks. If one compares it to the photo above and imagines a bridge over the top, one is led to believe this may have been an old bridge site that sits below the current roadway which crosses at the very top of the waterfall ravine. I feel lucky to live in such a wonderful part of the country which holds hidden treasures such as this waterfall!
